Stars set for ScottishPower Scottish Women’s Football Awards
SWF is pleased to announce the host and entertainment for Saturday’s prestigious ScottishPower Scottish Women’s Football Awards at Hampden Park, both previous guest hosts of Off The Ball.
Former BBC Broadcaster and journalist Catriona Shearer will be the MC at the glittering ceremony this Saturday, with comedian Ray Bradshaw providing the after-dinner entertainment.
The annual celebration of the women’s game will be held in the iconic home of Scottish football, Hampden Stadium, bringing together nominees who have been recognized for their contribution and achievements in football, on and off the pitch. The event will recognize both the incredible stars of the top professional leagues as well as shining a spotlight on the countless volunteers, coaches and individuals as well as the dedicated players who make the sport great across all levels.
Individuals from Shetland to Dumfries have been shortlisted in 16 categories, with the annual celebration sponsored by Principal Partner ScottishPower for the first time.
Catriona Shearer is a broadcaster and journalist who spent 16 years at the BBC. She has appeared presented on BBC Wales, BBC Radio Five Live and was the anchor for BBC Scotland’s, Reporting Scotland. Catriona also made a guest appearance on Only an Excuse?
The ceremony’s guest speaker will be comedian, Ray Bradshaw. The award-winning comedian who has supported John Bishop and Frankie Boyle on tours, is no stranger to football. An avid Partick Thistle fan, he is a regular host on BBC Scotland’s Off the Ball.
He has performed his previous two tours in both English and British Sign Language leading him to become the first comedian to win a Scottish Culture Show Award.
Commenting, SWF CEO Aileen Campbell said: “We are delighted that this year’s extravaganza is supported by such two great performers. Catriona Shearer has been a weel-kent face as BBC Scotland’s newsreader and it will be fantastic to have her warmth and humour as our MC. And bringing his unique humour will be funnyman Ray Bradshaw, helping to create a really great and celebratory occasion. We hope all the nominees have a wonderful night – we know Cat and Ray will help make the 2023 Awards a success!”.
