There are two points in the year where clubs can affiliate to Scottish Women’s Football. In general, teams in the ‘adult’ game affiliate in June due to those competitions running to a more ‘traditional’ football season whereas teams in the ‘youth’ game affiliate in November with participation running on a calendar year.  Teams in our Highlands and Islands competitions should also affiliate in November.

Affiliation allows clubs to enter SWF competitions, ensures clubs are compliant and acting in accordance with good governance and rules, and helps ensure they are offering a safe and nurturing environment for their players and officials.  Affiliated members also gain access to training and other opportunities offered by SWF as an Affiliated National Association of the SFA.

In June of each year, clubs competing in the Senior Football Pyramid (Championship/ League One, SWFL and Development League Cup)  participants must affiliate for the coming winter season.  Teams must also complete the pre-affiliation  check-list which sets out important policies and procedures that clubs must adhere to.  For entry requirements for Championship and League One team please click here.

In November of each year, clubs competing in the Senior Highlands and Islands League and Youth Regional Leagues, Youth Performance League, Development League and the Youth Challenge Cup must affiliate for the coming summer season.  Again, clubs should also complete the pre-affiliation form to ensure compliance against mandatory policies and procedures.

Entry Criteria

Scottish Women’s Football (SWF) introduced entry criteria for teams competing in the Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL) in Season 2019. With the restructure of the senior women’s game in Scotland and in pursuit of continual improvement, entry criteria are now applicable to both the Scottish Women’s Championship and Scottish Women’s League One.  This allows SWF to work with clubs in these competitions to raise standards on and off the pitch and also ensures that teams are viable and resilient and able to compete well. We are continually aiming to develop the process and firmly believe that it represents a positive step forward at this exciting time for the girls’ and women’s game in Scotland.
