Stirling University and Inverness Caley Thistle score big to go top in Barclays Championship
Stirling University struck a sweet seven goals in a 7-1 home win over Forfar Farmington to send them top of the Barclays Scottish Women’s Championship in week two.
Inverness Caledonian Thistle also produced an excellent performance to beat visiting East Fife 5-1, with Betty Ross claiming four goals to send the highlanders second in the table.
Rossvale used all their third-tier experience to comfortably beat Dunipace 6-1 at home.
Goals from Ava Riddex and Olivia McMahon gave Morton their first win of the season, beating Elgin City 2-1 at home while Bonnyrigg Rose had Caitlin Lowe to thank for a last-minute goal to secure a 3-2 win at Ayr United. Stenhousemuir and Dryburgh Athletic played out an entertaining 1-1 draw at Ochilview.
In Barclays League One Huntly produced a sterling first half to go 3-0 up at the break, but Edinburgh South worked their way back into it with two second-half goals to set up an exciting conclusion. Huntly however held on for their first win in the national leagues.
Bishopton found a stern test at St Mirren and were level on two each after an hour, but two late goals from Hannah Coyle and Frankie Fern gave them a 4-2 victory to keep them top of the table.
Dunfermline Athletic held off a second-half comeback by Inverurie Loco Works to win 2-1 in the northeast and send themselves second in the table, while Holly Ovens scored four goals as Queen of the South made up for their opening day defeat with a 5-2 win against Cambusdoon. Westdyke also recorded their first win with a 4-2 victory over Giffnock SC.
