ScottishPower awards grassroots women’s football funding across Highlands and Islands
ScottishPower has awarded £5,000 of grassroots funding to five women’s and girls’ football clubs across the Highlands and Islands, helping teams invest in facilities, equipment and travel to support the continued growth of the game.
Clachnacuddin, Fort William, Shetland Women, Sutherland Women and Moray Girls have been awarded £1,000 each through ScottishPower’s annual funding competition, created to provide essential support for grassroots women’s and girls’ football across the region.
Now in its third year, the initiative forms part of ScottishPower’s support for the Highlands and Islands League, where it became the first-ever title sponsor through its partnership with Scottish Women’s Football (SWF).
The latest awards bring the total number of funding grants awarded through the programme to 15 since 2023, helping clubs overcome some of the unique challenges faced by teams across the region.
Inverness Clachnacuddin will use the boost to upgrade strength and conditioning equipment. Fort William and Shetland will put funding towards travel costs, while Moray Girls will purchase additional equipment to enable 4v4 and 5v5 training sessions. Sutherland’s award will go towards installing new dugout facilities at Golspie.
Throughout the partnership, ScottishPower has worked closely with SWF and the Scottish Women’s Premier League to support the women’s game for both this and future generations by driving equality and diversity all the way from grassroots to elite.
The funding announcement follows the recent extension of ScottishPower’s partnership with Scottish Women’s Football, which will continue supporting the development of the game from grassroots through to elite level for a further three years.

“The commitment shown from ScottishPower to provide this additional support over and above league prize money underlines their commitment to women’s and girls’ football in Scotland at every age and stage, which is why we are delighted that our partnership will continue for another three years.”
