Goals galore in Barclays Scottish Women’s Championship
There were goals galore in round seven of the Barclays Scottish Women’s Championship, with Stirling University and Renfrew Ladies the biggest climbers in the table and East Fife stretching their lead at the top.
Stirling University were in full flow on their visit to Morton, with a double from Ann Taylor supplemented by goals from Kelise Aitchison, Amy Bruce and Olivia McHarg in a 5-1 victory.
Meanwhile last season’s League One champions Stenhousemuir had an uncomfortable afternoon in Renfrew, conceding an own goal and a brace from Sinead Macleod and strikes from Michaela brown, Emma Baird and SammyJo Smith for the home side in a 6-1 Renfrew Ladies victory.
Marrimar Hassoun scored Hutchison Vale’s first goal of the season after 21 minutes to give her side a rare lead, but it served as a wake-up call to league leaders East Fife, who were awarded a penalty just moments later which Chloe Guppy converted. Teri Skivington also scored from the spot on her way to a hat-trick, with Harriet Anderson, Juliana Bennet Luna and Lauren Healy completing a 7-1 victory.
Yasmin McCagh also bagged a hat-trick in Forfar Farmington’s 3-0 home win over Westdyke to keep the Aberdeenshire side in the relegation play-off position, while a double strike by Bella Viana helped Inverness Caledonian Thistle to a 2-0 home win over Dryburgh Athletic.
In the late kick-off, a last-gasp equaliser by Aimee Docherty deep into injury time rescued a point for Falkirk against Glasgow Girls, ensuring her side remain second in the table. Glasgow looked fairly comfortable going into the last ten minutes through strikes from Angyl Learmonth and Brooke Shields, but Olivia Murphy pulled one back for the visitors before Docherty’s equaliser.
The result helps Falkirk remain second on 14 points, while Renfrew join Inverness Caley Thistle on 13 points, four behind leaders East Fife who stretched their lead at the top.
The final game in the ScottishPower Regional League Cup group stages saw Clydebank Ladies hold off a Bishopton fightback to win 3-2 in Group 10 and join the visitors in the knockout rounds.
This means Harmony Row, who had started the afternoon second in the group, join West Park and Dumbarton in entering the ScottishPower Regional League Plate, with the draw for both due in the coming week.
