Moving into the last five games of the season, Hamilton Accies Women kept the pressure on league leaders Glasgow Girls with a comprehensive 6-0 win over Jeanfield Swifts.

Lori Gardner’s quickfire double in the opening stages along with Amy Anderson’s effort gave Gary Doctor’s women a comfortable 3-0 lead going into the break before goals from Deborah McLeod, Marie Terese McGuinness and Mhairi Lyle completed the rout.

And manager Doctor couldn’t rate his side highly enough.

He said; “As the cliche goes, we’re just taking it one game at a time and the next game becomes the most important, and that’s what we’ve been preaching to the players.

“In the last week or two we’ve seen a definite up in the intensity of training, the players have been brilliant lately and today was probably as well as we’ve played in a long time.

“We’ve not had a cleansheet in a while, but as a team today, every area played extremely well, never gave any chances away, didn’t get sloppy, and some of our work rate was phenomenal,” he added.

McGuinness seen two chances inch just wide of either post in the first minute, but Hamilton didn’t have to due them for long as Gardner opened the scoring only five minutes later.

After great countering from McGuinness, she found Gardner near the area, who despite initially losing the ball, won it back before driving into the box and placing it right past Corrie McIlravey.

And less than a minute later she completed her brace turning in McGuinness’ cross from close range.

Anderson completed the first half run with her lob over McIlravey with six until the break, before McLeod headed in brilliantly at the back post from a Gillian Inglis corner just before the hour mark.

McGuinness made it five after driving into the box and hooking her shot around the onrushing McIlravey ten later and Lyle got her reward with three left to play knocking in Susie Smith’s cross from the left to complete the rout.

Next up for Accies is a free weekend before heading to Lesser Hampden to face Queen’s Park.
