Spartans head into Round 2 of the SWPL 2016 season with an air of confidence around their Ainslie Park home ground following back-to-back competitive victories however, seasoned campaigner Louise Mason is wary of a Forfar Farmington backlash following their opening day defeat when the sides meet on Sunday.
“Our girls go into the game confident of continuing our good start and there’s no reason why, especially coming off the back of two good victories in the Cup and League. In fact, we’re unbeaten since we went to play a very handy Doncaster Belles in a friendly which is a testament to the way our team has gelled together over a short space of time.
It’s been three years since the visitors picked up a point at Ainslie Park however Mason is wary of the challenge that her side will face.
The 23 year old noted, “We can’t take our foot off the gas for a single moment and every Sunday we must go in 100% determined to win. One mistake, or one draw where we should have taken 3 points, could cost us valuable positions in the league.
Any team that drops points just now will cost them at least two positions in the table it really has changed dramatically from last season – every player, every team knows the consequences of not performing to the best of their capabilities week in, week out.
The former Scotland age-grade Internationalist, now in her 7th season at the club was able to watch Sunday’s opponents recently against Hearts.
Mason said, “I noted that they have added pace to the flanks via new signings from Inverness and this will add a new dynamic to their play and we will need to be aware of that.
That said, we only need to focus on our game and it is one that is definitely winnable in a bid to secure another important early three points.
