#SWPL1: Celts looking forward to Glasgow City test…

Celtic’s Women have their first home game of the league season today (Sunday), and it’s the toughest of tests as they take on the reigning champions, Glasgow City. And the Hoops squad are determined to get a positive result from the game which will build on their opening-day victory over Hamilton last weekend.

With the club’s two new American signings, Jaclyn Poucel and Darcy McFarlane, available, and midfielder Kerry Montgomery fit, manager David Haley has a very strong squad to pick from.

Speaking to the official Celtic website, Kerry Montgomery said; “It’s been very frustrating not being able to play in the first two games, but the team got the job done and won the games I’ve missed, so that was good to see.

“I’m fully fit and ready to go, so hopefully I’ll get my starting place back – but there’s a lot of good competition in the team just now, so it’s a great, competitive atmosphere.

“Everyone has really been buzzing this week. This is the game that everyone wants to play in, so it’s been a real battle to win a place in the starting eleven. The tempo and energy set by the girls has been excellent, so we are all really excited about Sunday.”

Assessing the players available, she continued: “I am really impressed with Darcy and Jaclyn  They’re both experienced playing at a high level and have brought an extra energy and determination on to the training pitch.

“We’re really excited to see what they can do in a big game for us but I have high expectations after seeing them train this week. They’ve fitted in really well straight away, and are already learning the Scottish banter.”

Asked what she hopes the team can achieve against their Glasgow rivals, she said: “I think the main target is to play to the standard and tempo we are capable of, and we need to take all the hard work from training this week and put it into action on the pitch.

“Not many teams have taken points from City in the past few seasons but we’re confident we can win the game and are ready for the challenge.”
