Cumbernauld Colts Yellow 0 – 5 Stenny Ladies
Wishart 32′, Simpson 38′, Cherry 61′, 73′ & 77′
Stenny Ladies got their second win of the season as they brushed aside the challenge put up by Cumbernauld Colts Dev at Broadwood Stadium.
Lauren Dickson should’ve opened the scoring after only 2 minutes.
A corner by Marni Russell found Dickson unmarked in the box. The initial shot was saved well and the ball rebounded straight back at her, however her header crashed off the crossbar.
There was a strong penalty claim from the visitors after a blatant hand ball in the box from a Colts defender after a great cross, however the referee was caught on the wrong side of the incident.
Stenny Ladies continued to pile the pressure on the Colts defence with a further 7 attempts on goal before the first tactual change – left footed Rebecca Cheape moved to the left wing & right footed Eilidh McLeman moved to the right wing.
The change almost immediately brought about a goal when Cheape breached the Colts back line but could only find the side netting.
The first goal came after 32 minutes when Debbie Simpson found Caitlyn Wishart who accurately fired the ball past the helpless Colts keeper from 8 yards out.
The lead was doubled only 6 minutes later when Simpson coolly slotted home when through 1-on-1 after persistent work from McLeman on the right wing.
Stenny Ladies came out for the second half firing on all cylinders and could’ve scored a third after only 12 seconds when Cheape fired straight at the Colts ‘keeper.
The first substitution of the match came on 53 minutes when 14 year old Rhona Cameron made her senior debut, replacing Laura Couper. Cameron moved to left back, Wishart dropped to midfield and Alana Cherry moved to striker. After a nervy start, Cameron was solid in the tackle and liked up well with Cheape on numerous occasions to start attacks.
The second change for Stenny Ladies came after 60 minutes when Alyx MacRobbie took Rachel Hunt’s place at right back.
Cherry scored Stenny Ladies third goal of the game on 61 minutes. Simpson found Cherry 25 yards out from goal, who rifled a shot into the far corner leaving the goalkeeper no chance.
McLeman should’ve made it four only a minute later after rounding the goalkeeper but miss hit her shot wide despite having an open goal.
Cherry scored her second of the match after 73 minutes when Simpson teed her up again. Cherry raced through and rolled the ball beyond the goalkeeper from 12 yards out.
Cherry completed her hat trick on 77 minutes. Another corner from Russell found Cherry unmarked 3 yards out and she headed home. The Colts goalkeeper got injured during the fifth goal but, after a lengthy stoppage, she continued to play.
Despite the stoppages there was no additional time added on by the referee.
