Kilmarnock suffered a home defeat at the hands of a young Celtic team. A goal either side of time half was enough to win what was otherwise a tight match as Celtic were the more clinical of the two sides.
Celtic took the game to Killie in the opening exchanges and took an early lead in the 10th minute. A fine finish from the young striker to give her side the advantage. But Kilmarnock then came into the game – forcing Celtic back and starting to get more than their fair share of possession.
HT 1-0 Celtic
Mark Ritchie’s half time team talk lifted the players as they looked for a better 2nd half performance – a more aggressive approach. An excellent move involving Docherty and sub Telford brought Killie close to levelling the scores.
Kilmarnock were lacking the cutting edge they’ve had in recent weeks and Celtic finally killed them off in the final minutes. A flurry down the left flank resulted in the ball being played across to the far side of the box where the impressive number 10 slammed the ball high into the roof of the net to end Killie’s hopes of salvaging a draw.
FT 2-0 Celtic
Next weekend Kilmarnock entertain Aberdeen reserves in the 2nd round of the Division 1 league cup at Rugby Park with a 3.30pm K.O. A competition that we really want to progress in this season.
