The Final of the SWFL Division One Cup will be played tonight between Celtic Academy and Cumbernauld Colts.
This week marks a chance for Celtic as a club to win two cup finals, with the SWPL Cup Final this Sunday, but today’s game is all about their Academy team. Their season so far in the Division One South sees them sitting in seventh place, with two wins and three draws to date – including a 4-0 win over Cumbernauld Colts last Sunday.
Their route to the Final began with a 2-0 win over Aberdeen U23s, before beating Forfar Farmington U23s 4-0. A narrow 2-1 win over Westerlands saw them progress into the Semi-Finals where they beat Renfrew by the same scoreline to progress through to the Final.
Despite Sunday’s defeat, Cumbernauld Colts are three points ahead of Celtic Academy and have played one game fewer – winning three games and drawing one.
Their run to the Final started with an impressive 5-0 win over Dee Ladies and they followed this up with a close 2-1 win over Boroughmuir Thistle. A five-goal thriller occurred in both their Quarter-Final and Semi-Final games, winning by 3-2: first against Granite City and then against the holders Hibernian Development.
