Rangers Ladies recorded their second victory of the season against rivals Celtic after a 2-1 victory at New Tinto Park.
Two goals in the second half, from an own goal and Lauren Davidson, were enough to see the Bluebelles run out as winners.
In a tight first half it was Rangers who had the best of the early chances. Claire Adams unleashed a looping shot from all of 30 yards and the Celtic ‘keeper had to produce a finger tip save to prod it over the bar.
Davidson was then presented with a fantastic chance to open the scoring as she ran on to a fantastic Long ball from Chelsie Watson. Davidson, one on one with the ‘keeper saw her shot saved.
Celtic thought they had opened the scoring late in the half. A long free kick was knocked on to the post with the rebound being put into the net. However, the linesman’s flag came to Rangers’ rescue.
Rangers opened the scoring early in the second half from an own goal. Sinclair powered down the wing and put a dangerous ball into the box. In attempt to clear the ball, the Celtic defender could only turn the ball into her own net and give Rangers the lead.
The second goal was all of Rangers own making. Davidson ran onto a superb through ball from Watson and from a tight angle chipped the ‘keeper. The ball clipped in off bar and Rangers’ lead was doubled.
Davidson came close to adding a third. She collected the ball at the half way line and drove into the Celtic box. The only thing that was lacking was the finish as the ball hit the side netting.
Celtic responded and came out looking to get back in the game. Once again, Celtic had the ball in the net but had done so from an offside position and the goal was ruled out.
A late Celtic goal made for a nervy finish, but Rangers stood firm against the Celtic fightback and held on for the 2-1 win. Next up for Amy McDondald’s side is a trip to Stirling University next Sunday as they hope to continue their winning form.
