On the balance of play, Rangers deserved the three points in today’s game, but Forfar put in a very good effort.

In the first ten minutes, Rangers were narrowly on top and created a few good openings from long balls from the back. The pace of Hayley Sinclair and Laura McCartney down the wings caused Forfar a few problems.

However, it was the away side who created the first chance of the game with Kilcoyne shooting narrowly over the bar from around 25 yards out after three minutes.

Rangers then went up the other end and created a chance of their own, as Sinclair’s cross was met by the head of Lauren Gallon who headed just over the bar.

Forfar caused Rangers some problems on the counter attack. On the 19th minute, a cross from Robyn Smith turned into a cross come shot which was clawed away by Jade Baillie. Rangers dominated the ball and territory in the early stages of the first half, but Forfar posed a dangerous threat once they got the ball.

Forfar got the breakthrough in the 24th minute after Robyn Smith passed the ball out to the edge of the box to find Danielle McGinley who cooly dispatched past Baillie in the Rangers goal.

Almost straight from the restart, Carla Boyce latched onto a poor back pass from Leah White to be through on goal only to see her shot go into the body of the Forfar keeper who saved well from the strike

In the 28th minute McCartney was brought down in the box and the referee awarded Rangers a penalty. Jade Gallon’s penalty was straight at the keeper who pulled off a decent one handed save to deny Rangers a goal.

Shortly before half time Rangers came close again after McCartney’s brilliant shot from just outside the box smacked off the crossbar.

In the second half Rangers came out strongly again and dominated. They deservedly got the equalising goal mid-way through the second half. A low cross from substitute Brown was poked home by Jade Gallon from about 6 yards out.

Rangers nearly scored again a few minutes later, when Boyce was put through on goal again only to see her shot go straight into the keeper who parried the ball away before the second shot was deflected wide.

Rangers began to get frustrated as they seemed unable to get the winner they deserved from the game.

Just into the last ten minutes of the game and Rangers finally got the winner they were after. Claire Gemmell slotted a ball into Chantelle Brown whose shot from a tight angle bobbled into the net via a deflection from the keeper who got a hand to it. Rangers edged past their opponents to claim three crucial league points.
