Motherwell LFC have won the Scottish Building Society SWPL 2 title with five games to spare. The women of steel have been an unstoppable force this season, winning 14 of their 16 games so far and scoring 68 goals in the process.

The team knew a win in today’s game would be enough, with Motherwell comfortably defeating Edinburgh University Hutchison Vale 1-5. The victory will be made sweeter given that today was the last game in charge for Eddie Wolecki Black, who will now join Celtic as Head Coach. Donald Jennow will remain at Motherwell as their Head Coach.

Motherwell have plenty still to play for, most notably the SSE Scottish Cup where they face fellow SBSSWPL 2 side St Johnstone in the last eight. They will also have their sights on a points record for the league, set by Forfar Farmington last season. They finished with 52 points and Motherwell are just nine behind with five games remaining.

The arrangements for Motherwell to receive the SBSSWPL 2 trophy are TBC in due course.
