Scottish Women’s Football appoints new operations manager

Scottish Women’s Football has appointed Kirsty Fowler as the organisation’s new operations and competitions manager to oversee the continued development of the women’s game, including ensuring youth pathways and the National Academy Programme are successful in proving opportunities in communities and developing talent.

Kirsty Fowler has worked for Judo Scotland and Scottish Hockey, for which she organised performance competitions that helped develop talent for the national team. Most recently she worked in the third sector at Ochiltree community hub, providing links to services for health and wellbeing in Cumnock.

Commenting, Scottish Women’s Football CEO Aileen Campbell said: “I’m absolutely delighted to add Kirsty to the team. She brings vital experience in sports management at a time when we are launching our new leagues and the SHAAP National Academy Programme, through which clubs nurture and develop future talent.

“As well as that, football clubs provide a vital community hub, especially during the pandemic recovery, so Kirsty’s experience in the third sector will give a fresh perspective. The success of women’s football in Scotland lies in creating direct link between communities and the top, including developing a robust pyramid system with our Biffa SWFL clubs. I’m delighted that the SFA is also set to appoint a new performance manager for the women’s game, and we look forward to working closely and collaboratively with them.”

Kirsty Fowler said: “I’m thrilled to join Scottish Women’s Football at an exciting time for the sport. This weekend we have kick off in the new Championship and League One, as well as our new National Academy Programme. I’ve seen as we emerge from the pandemic the vital role football clubs can play in communities, from getting girls involved in their youth teams to initiatives like walking football.

“I look forward to helping our clubs provide these opportunities for women and girls, as well as developing and nurturing the talent of the future.”
