MG ALBA SWF Awards shortlists announced
Scottish Women’s Football can announce the shortlists for the showcase awards for the women’s game in Scotland.
Winners of the MG ALBA SWF Awards will be announced at a ceremony on the 4th June at Glasgow’s Hilton Hotel, the first in-person gathering following a near two-year gap due to Covid which saw the prestigious event held online.
Rangers duo Lizzie Arnot and Nicola Docherty go up against Glasgow City’s Priscila Chinchilla and Celtic’s Charlie Wellings for the SWPL1 Player of the Year, while SWPL2 Player of the Year is between Danni McGinley and Robyn Smith of Dundee United, Boroughmuir Thistle’s Sammy Duncan and Glasgow Women’s Cara Henderson.
Rangers’ Malky Thomson, Partick Thistle’s Brian Graham, Celtic’s Fran Alonso and Dundee United’s Graeme Hart will vie for SWPL Coach of the Year.
Championship Team of the Year will be one of Montrose, East Fife, Gartcain, Dryburgh and Rossvale, while Rangers’ U16 and U19 sides compete with Glasgow City’s U16 side and Millennium FC in Stranraer for the title of Youth Team of the Year.
The Kat Lindner Award for Outstanding Athletic and Academic Achievement, named after the former Glasgow City player who died suddenly in 2019, honours a player who has excelled both on and off the field. The shortlist for this award is Tessel Middag of Rangers, Clare Shine of Glasgow City and Leanne Crichton of Motherwell.

“After their groundbreaking unbeaten season, it’s not surprising to see Rangers well represented in the shortlists, but there are many other success stories throughout our leagues, both off and on the pitch and I can’t wait to celebrate them at our event on the 4th June.”
