Dee Vale Ladies FC are pleased to announce they are joining forces with Westdyke Girls Community Club. Westdyke Girls currently have representation at all levels from U7 to U17 and this new venture will see them become only the second club in the North region to offer a complete pathway from girls’ football to the women’s game.
Both clubs are excited to be working together to promote and grow the girls’ and women’s game in Aberdeen and the surrounding area.
The move is an extension of an existing working relationship with several Dee Vale players currently involved in coaching the younger age groups at Westdyke.
Alun Harries, Head of Westdyke Girls section commented, “this merger between Westdyke Girls and Dee Vale is a great step forward for the whole of Westdyke Community Club. We now have a pathway from U7’s all the way up to ladies, and this has been achieved in just 6 years. It gives those in the younger squads the opportunity to remain with the club all the way through their playing career without having to look elsewhere. It is great to see the club going from strength to strength and we look forward to seeing Westdyke Dee Vale competing during the 2017 season.”
Dee Vale LFC coaching team said, “pairing up with Westdyke is a great fit for both clubs and secures a succession of future talent for the ladies squad. We hope that the injection of energy and enthusiasm, not to mention talent, from the young players moving up to ladies football will reinvigorate the existing team and provide opportunities for all players to develop further.”
Dee Vale LFC player and Westdyke Thistle 13s coach Shona Fielding said, “I have worked with the Westdyke family over the last year as a coach and I am very excited to be able to bring together my playing and coaching careers at the same club. Westdyke are a fantastic community club with a positive attitude to player development and I am looking forward to next season.”
During the 2017 season the senior team will be called Westdyke Dee Vale and compete in Division 1 North.
