City go top of the SWPL1…

Glasgow City moved to the top of the SWPL after goals from Noelle Murray and Hayley Lauder earned the ten in a row reigning Champions a 2-1 win over Hibernian in Edinburgh.

City dominated the opening of the game and it was no surprise when Noelle Murray fired home a great half volley after showing some good individual skill to make space outside the box.

Lauder then made it 2-0 on 22 minutes as she fired a right foot shot low into the bottom corner. It could have been 3-0 soon after as Murray robbed the Hibs defence of the ball before tearing down on goal, only to be denied one on one by an excellent save from Hibs stopper Jenna Fife.

A bruised Hibernian emerged a stronger force in the second period and pulled a goal back when Rachael Small fired home after some pin ball in the City box after a Hibs corner, but it proved not enough to get her side any points from the top of the table encounter between the country’s two top sides.

Commenting on the match, City Head Coach Scott Booth said, “The team were excellent today. We played really well, particularly in the first half and scored two excellent goals. When we had to dig deep we did and I am delighted for them that they got the three points their play and desire deserved.”
