Glasgow City stay top of the Scottish Building Society SWPL 1 tonight after a 4-1 win over Spartans in Edinburgh.

Goals from Abbi Grant and Kirsty Howat gave City the lead at the break, before Grant added a third on 55 minutes to net her 50th goal for the club.

An own goal from City defender Megan Foley soon after gave Spartans a life line, but Howat got on the score sheet again with six minutes remaining to make it a comfortable scoreline in the end for the reigning Champions.

Commenting, City Head Coach, Scott Booth said, “I thought it was a tough match. Spartans were physical and organised and tried to make it very difficult us, but I felt we created some good chances again in the first half and went in two nil ahead at the break in a good position. Although ahead, I still felt game was far from over and needed the third goal and we got it through some good football. The own goal put us under a bit of pressure, but credit to the players, they kept playing and we got the fourth and overall I felt we were in control.”

Glasgow City’s next match is against Rangers at home at Petershill Park, next Sunday. Kick Off is 2.10pm. Entry is £5 adults, £2 U16s.
