City pick up maximum points against Spartans

City survived a late scare to pick up an important three points at home to Spartans following a 3-1 win.

Kirsty Howat fired City into an early lead after only 6 minutes but the hosts were unable to add to their advantage until midway through the second half when Abbi Grant was hauled down in the box and Captain Leanne Ross converted the resultant penalty.

Spartans got a goal back with a few minutes remaining through Elena Santoyo-Brown, but their hopes of a comeback were short lived as Leanne Crichton restored City’s two goal cushion less than a minute later with an excellent piece of composure and skill.

Commenting on the result, City Head Coach, Scott Booth said. “It was a very fractured performance from us today in pretty difficult windy conditions but I felt we could have played much better than we did, we are certainly capable of it. Some of our passing let us down but despite this we still created a number of very good chances, which is pleasing. Ultimately it is three more points and that was the main objective before the match.

City are back in action on Wednesday away to Rangers at New Tinto Park. Kick off 8pm.
