SWF Championship and League One head into split weekend
SWF’s national leagues head into their final full round this weekend before each league splits for the season finale.
The Championship will split into a top four and bottom five, with Glasgow side Rossvale currently eight points ahead of second-placed Ayr United with four games left. This means if they win and Ayr United fail to win on Sunday, they will have clinched the title and automatic promotion to SWPL 2.
Rossvale host Dundee side Dryburgh Athletic on Sunday, who sit four points behind fourth-placed Renfrew so cannot make the top four but will see the match as a dress rehearsal for next month’s Championship & League One cup final in Alloa between the sides.
Ayr United host Renfrew Ladies on Sunday, who will be desperate to cement their top four credentials. A draw may not be enough for them, as fifth-placed Inverness Caledonian Thistle, two points behind, head to Edinburgh to face a Hutchison Vale side who have shipped goals in recent weeks, so it is difficult to predict eventual goal differences if the sides are tied on points.
Third-placed East Fife have secured their top four status, but will be looking to gain ground on Ayr United who sit in the playoff spot as they travel to face Morton, who sit in eighth.
SWF’s League One will split into a top five and bottom five, but the teams sitting in fifth and sixth are both currently on 28 points. League newcomers Queen of the South in fifth have a +17 goal difference and travel to third-placed Falkirk hoping that Edinburgh Caledonia, sitting just behind them with a +15 goal difference don’t get a result against league leaders Stenhousemuir.
The added complication is that Edinburgh Caledonia also have a rearranged game in hand against bottom side Dundee West, so a top five spot remains in the capital club’s hands.
Bonnyrigg Rose on 32 points have already secured their top five status, while Airdrie Ladies on 18 points cannot reach the top half.
Only six points separate the top three in League One, so every game will matter in the run-in. Whatever happens, we’re set for an exciting conclusion to Scotland’s third and fourth tiers.
