Renfrew keep pace with Rossvale at top of Women’s Championship
Renfrew Ladies have kept pace with Rossvale at the top of the Scottish Women’s Championship with a 3-1 victory at home against local rivals Greenock Morton despite having Emma Donnelly sent off for a challenge on Rachael McConnachie.
Morgan Graham put her side ahead from the spot after 20 minutes and Nicole Telford added a second towards the end of the first half with a cute lob of the keeper. Morton’s top scorer Jacqui Seagrave pulled one back but Broen secured the three points for Renfrew with a late goal.
The victory keeps them tied on points with Rossvale, who had beaten Ayr United 2-1 earlier in Cumnock.
Inverness needed a late penalty in Dundee to secure much needed first away points of the season, beating Dryburgh 3-2 in a close game.
Livingston kept Hutchison Vale at bay in the late kick off to leapfrog the Edinburgh side in the table, running out 3-1 winners with goals from Fish, Mason and Mulligan. A brilliant goal line clearance from captain Natasha Frew prevented a Hutchie Vale gaining momentum to mount a fourth comeback in as many weeks.
In League One, league leaders Falkirk secured a hugely significant 2-1 victory over a Grampian Ladies side which had already scored 20 goals in four games to keep themselves top of the table. Goals from Ellie Roberts and Charlotte Holden kept the three points at the Falkirk stadium.
FC Edinburgh ran out 5-0 winners in Giffnock with a solid performance, moving the ball quickly and pressing the Giffnock defence high.
Westdyke put ten past Dundee West without reply, in a show of intent for their own title ambitions, while there were first league points on the board for BSC Glasgow, who beat Airdrie Ladies away 2-1 in a close game, and Gleniffer Thistle, who took a significant point away from Ochilview, Stenhousemuir needing a late goal by a trialist to salvage a point.
A seven-goal thriller at Meadowbank saw St Mirren hold off a comeback by Edinburgh Caledonia. A late penalty for the home side set up a nervy final eight minutes but the Buddies held on to move up level on points with Grampian.
