Glasgow Girls win 16s ScottishPower Youth Challenge Cup 2025

Match report: 16s ScottishPower Youth Challenge Cup final

Glasgow Girls 3-1 Musselburgh Windsor

Youth Performance League leaders Glasgow Girls have lifted the 2025 16s ScottishPower Youth Challenge Cup after a 3-1 victory over Musselburgh Windsor at Ochilview Park in Stenhousemuir.

After the first of three finals to mark the climax of the girls’ youth season, the girls were presented with their trophy by sponsor ScottishPower’s CEO Keith Anderson.

After five mins, the Musselburgh defence missed a through ball which put Glasgow winger Charley Rankin through on goal, but keeper Evie Thomson stood tall to save from point blank.

Musselburgh were enjoying possession football but Glasgow looked the more dangerous on the break, Rebecca Scally shooting well over on 22 minutes, then Masie Mcminn doing the same two minutes later after latching onto a free kick from Amelie Connell.

Musselburgh’s first clear opportunity came after the half-hour mark, with keeper Thomson coming out to take a free kick in the centre circle which dropped for Rachel Smith but her header was well saved by Laurie Macdonald. Glasgow’s reaction was instant. On the next drive Rankin once again found herself in space, but this time rounded Thomson to slot home and give Glasgow Girls the advantage at half-time.

Scally doubled the lead early into the second period with another calm finish. But the game remained open, and Musselburgh reduced the deficit through second-half sub Eve Innes, who fired high into the net on 50 minutes.

However, four minutes later Scally floated in a looping shot from outside the box which evaded Thomson. Despite a dogged midfield and significant endeavour from Alice Whyte on Musselburgh’s right, they failed to carve out a clear cut chance, while Glasgow spurned a few chances to add to their tally from set pieces, but held on the a historic cup win.

The ScottishPower Youth Challenge Cup is SWF’s biggest competition in numbers and scope, with over 350 teams from across Scotland taking part.
