Falkirk and Queen of the South open up leads at top of Barclays leagues
Falkirk and Queen of the South have stretched their leads at the top of the Barclays Scottish Women’s Championship and League One respectively, after an action-packed Sunday for SWF’s national leagues.
Falkirk travelled to an Ayr United side they had replaced at the top of the Championship last week, and found themselves 3-0 up by half-time. Then goals from Jen Nicol and Rachel Scott looked to have Ayr mounting a comeback, but Vhairi Munro struck for the visitors on the 70th minute to ensure they took all three points with a 4-2 victory.
Meanwhile Forfar Farmington, who started the day in second, were pegged back 4-4 by a resilient Armadale Thistle in West Lothian, who picked up their first point of the season.
Glasgow Girls’ struggles continued as they went 10-0 down to local rivals Rossvale, Stenhousemuir came out on top of a hard fought 4-3 home win against Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Renfrew blew rivals Morton away 8-1 and Bonnyrigg Rose continued their good home form with a 3-1 win over Dryburgh Athletic.
Barclays League One leaders Queen of the South beat Dunfermline Athletic 5-2 in Fife, while Airdrie Ladies edged Glenrothes Strollers 1-0 at home. Dunipace showed agility and speed in a 4-0 victory over Edinburgh Caledonia, Elgin City recorded an impressive 6-2 win against Cambusdoon, and Inverurie Locos moved back into second with a 1-0 victory over St Mirren in Paisley.
The meeting between the sides relegated from the Championship last season ended a comprehensive 9-0 victory for Westdyke over Hutchison Vale. Eilidh Blackhall grabbed herself a hat-trick and Hutchie put two in their own net during the rain-soaked match in Aberdeenshire.
