Cup fever throughout women and girls football on Halloween weekend
It will be trick or treat for women and girls football sides across Scotland this weekend, as Scottish Women’s Football is set for a bumper few days of cup ties, with exciting quarter and semi-final ties being played across the country.
The Oriam National Performance Centre will be where the finalists of the Youth Challenge Cup at 14, 16 and 18 age groups will be revealed, as the semi-finals take place at on both Saturday and Sunday.
The quarter-finals of the performance arm of the youth game, the SWF Youth Scottish Cup will also take place this weekend as well as the quarter-finals of the most senior League Cup run by SWF, the Championship and League One Cup.
This prestige cup has Westdyke, who are riding high in the Women’s League One hosting Championship side Ayr United in the northeast. Grampian Ladies will look to reverse their away defeat to FC Edinburgh last Sunday at home and cup holders Dryburgh Athletic host Championship rivals Inverness Caledonian Thistle in Dundee.
The current top two in the Women’s Championship, Livingston and Rossvale, will joust for the last semi-final place on Tuesday night, the other side of Halloween, at the Tony Macaroni stadium.
Before that, the 18s SWF Youth Scottish Cup will see National Academy Programme sides compete for semi-final places.
Spartans host Rangers, Glasgow City visit Kilmarnock, Hamilton host Forfar Farmington and Aberdeen travel to the winners of Hearts or Celtic, who play tonight for their place in the quarter finals in a rearranged fixture.
Meanwhile, Musselburgh Windsor, Dumbarton United, Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Drumchapel will all vie for a place in the final of the 18s Youth Challenge Cup on Sunday at Oriam.
