Aileen Campbell nominated for UK-wide women’s football award

Scottish Women’s Football CEO Aileen Campbell has been shortlisted for a UK-wide award celebrating achievements off the pitch in the women’s game.

Taking place in London on Thursday 25 May, hosted by Eni Aluko and Jamie Carragher, the flagship Women’s Football Awards ceremony will recognise people making a positive difference in the growth of the game across the UK and worldwide.

Responding, Aileen Campbell said: “Given the incredible growth of women’s football across the UK since the pandemic, including England’s fabulous victory in the Euros, it’s incredibly humbling to be shortlisted in this category.

“With an all-new staff team, Scottish Women’s Football has worked incredibly hard to ensure that the growth of the game in Scotland is not just about the elite game but builds from the grassroots up, and this has been evidenced in our recent ability to bring in key partners to support resilience in communities across Scotland.

“As well as securing another six-figure donation from an individual who has supported the women’s game through the pandemic, we have had key new partners who have raised our game.

“Biffa have been instrumental in lifting the prestige of our regional SWFL leagues as they join the pyramid and open up opportunities for ambitious clubs to grow. s1jobs have come in as our recruitment partner and allowed us to remove barriers for women to train as referees and FirstPoint USA have provided a boost to our regional league cups in the youth game.

“Meanwhile, our national leagues the Championship and League One are enjoying more visibility and media coverage than ever before and I’m grateful for recognition from the Women’s Football Awards in the form of this nomination.”
