Airdrie Foodbank are the latest signing for Glasgow City Football Club.
The top European outfit have committed to continue playing their home games at Excelsior Stadium, Airdrie over the next three seasons and have signed up to support Airdrie Foodbank at their home matches. The first collection will be held on Wednesday 14th October 2015, when Glasgow City host Chelsea in the Champions League.
Airdrie Foodbank Manager, David Findlay said: “Over the next three years Glasgow City F.C. will be playing at Excelsior Stadium and have pledged their support to the local foodbank.
It’s a great gesture by the club who aim to have both food collections and cash collections as well as programme support at their games throughout the season. We are grateful to the club for their support“.
As the nation’s top women’s team, City’s spectator base for League matches is into the hundreds and well in excess of 1000 on European tie nights with spectator attendances going up every week as more locals get to know that Scotland’s top team are based in their home town.
Laura Montgomery, Club Manager said: “Glasgow City Football Club are delighted to partner with Airdrie Foodbank for our upcoming Champions League match against Chelsea at the Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie on Wednesday 14th October.
“The Foodbank do extraordinary work in the local area and are open 3 times a week at the stadium offering not just food to take away, but also a warm meal or cup of tea and advice on agencies who can offer further support.
“We are hoping for big home crowd for our 7.30pm kick off against English giants Chelsea and if any of our supporters are able to bring along non-perishable food to donate to the food bank we would be extremely grateful. The collections will be based inside the concourse after entry through the turnstile.
“Hopefully it will be a fantastic night of Champions League football and some much needed food stocks brought in for a fantastic local cause.”
