Women’s football is an inclusive game that can be good for your physical and mental health, according to the governing body of the women’s game.

Scottish Women’s Football is marking Mental Health Awareness Week by encouraging girls and women across Scotland to participate in the sport.

Commenting, SWF CEO Aileen Campbell said: “Playing and watching football releases endorphins and brings friends together in ways that can really help with your mental health, which is why it is so important that the game is inclusive and open to all.

“At SWF, we are determined that every woman and girl in Scotland who wants to play or watch football can do so through our clubs and their junior pathways. That’s why we celebrate the successes of women’s football and our fantastic role models, as well as underlining that there’s no place for the barriers that women and girls face, through stigma, prejudice and discrimination.”
