The draw for the 2018 SWPL Cup Semi-Final was conducted this afternoon at Hampden Park. Presenting the draw was Scottish FA Events and Competitions Services Co-ordinator, Sarah Crilly, and conducting the draw was Scottish Women’s Football Executive Officer, Fiona McIntyre.
The reigning SWPL Cup champions, Hibernian, have been drawn to face league champions, Glasgow City. In a repeat of last year’s competition, the two sides meet at this stage again while Celtic, who reached the 2017 final, face Forfar Farmington in the other tie.
City will be hoping to achieve cup success this year having lost to Hibernian in the 2016 final and in last year’s semi-final. Despite victory after victory over the Edinburgh side in the league, they’ve failed to overcome them in both cup competitions as Hibs go for their third SWPL Cup victory in a row.
If Hibs do manage to win the 2018 trophy, it’ll bring them level with City for overall success in the competition with six victories each.
In the later match, Celtic will be aiming to reach their second SWPL Cup final in a row and go one better than last season. They were defeated 4-1 at Broadwood but the match was level for much of the first half.
They face newly promoted Forfar Farmington, who are looking to reach their first ever league cup final. They saw off Stirling University yesterday and have put in some fine performances since returning to the top flight.
Both games will be played at Falkirk Stadium on Sunday 29th of April. Hibernian and Glasgow will kick-off at 12:00 and Celtic and Forfar Farmington will kick-off at 15:30.
The two successful teams will meet at the Falkirk Stadium for the final on Sunday 20th May, currently scheduled for a 14:00 kick-off.
