It was a magnificent seven for Celtic as they cruised into the second round of the SWPL Cup following a comprehensive 7-0 win over Dundee United.

Kathleen McGovern netted a perfect hat-trick, scoring with both feet and also from a header, while Claire Crosbie fired home a double, with Sarah Ewens and Kirsty McLaughlin with her first goal for the Hoops completing the scoring.

It was McGovern who got the first goal after just nine minutes. A Ewens cross from wide was misjudged by the United keeper, and when the ball came back off the crossbar, McGovern was on hand to head the ball home.

And Celtic doubled their advantage just before the half-hour mark. Keeva Keenan chased a long ball down the left before picking McGovern out with a low cross, and she coolly slotted it under the keeper with her left foot.

Claire Crosbie extended Celtic’s lead on 41 minutes, heading home from a McLaughlin corner. And having established a strong first-half lead, the Hoops made it 4-0 right at the start of the second-half. Emma Black fired a long ball up to Ewens in the area, and she spun and lobbed the keeper for an impressive goal.

Celtic were continuing to dominate proceedings, and with 15 minutes of the match remaining, McGovern completed her hat-trick, latching on to a high ball from Kat Smart and taking a touch before knocking the ball into the net with her right foot.

Just five minutes later, it was 6-0 as McLaughlin converted a Rachel Donaldson goal, before Crosbie completed the scoring with her second of the afternoon, heading home again from another McLaughlin corner.

Celtic now go into the international break before facing Spartans in a league clash on Sunday, March 10.
