#SWFL1 South: Celtic Academy v Cumbernauld Colts

SHARE

Cumbernauld signed off the 2016 season with a point from the stalemate against Celtic Academy at K-Park.

In a fairly even contest that both sides had players missing they served up a spectacle for the spectators in attendance.

Though this was an end to end game, chances and attempts on goal in the opening 45 were few and far between with the majority coming from distance and posing little threat to opening the scoring. The closest the visitors came was from the pace of Kim Guthrie as she created an opportunity from a Frances Fern through ball.

The pattern of the second half was much the same as the first. Though in the final 15 minutes the Colts upped the work rate and effort as they went all out for the victory. Several opportunities were created and though they did go close, the win eluded them.

After the match Julie McSherry said she was exceptionally pleased with her sides performance. We’ve ended a frustrating period and the season with a point. It was a tough end of season we faced with four away games on the bounce. Tough loses at Rangers and Motherwell were followed with a point in both games from visits to Kilmarnock and Celtic.

We’ll be losing a few players at the end of this season as they’ve decided to move on or stop playing at the end of the year. We’ll be looking to bring in replacements of a similar or better quality to replace them. A few free agents have already been in touch for 2017.

We’re also looking to bring in a few changes to the coaching dynamic as we require a bit of assistance there.
