“Scots Abroad”

Welcome to our fortnightly article Scots Abroad – a feature on the trials and tribulations of Scottish players playing their football outside of Scotland.

It has been a quiet couple of weeks on the pitch, but there were two massive WSL Continental Cup semi-finals games which took place on Sunday 14th January.

A solitary goal decided the game between Chelsea and Man City. There were three Scots that featured during the game. Erin Cuthbert played for Chelsea but it was the two Scots in the Man City team, Jenny Beattie and Claire Emslie, that were celebrating at the end of the game.

In the other semi-final Lisa Evans and Emma Mitchell were involved in a 5 goal thriller as Arsenal edged out Reading 3-2. The final is scheduled for the 11th March and will provide bragging rights for some Scots with potentially up to 5 featuring on the big day.

Meanwhile in the only WSL game played since our last feature both Chloe Arthur and Frankie Brown were involved in Bristol City’s 2-0 defeat at Birmingham.

However there were a lot of Scots abroad last week – 23 to be precise as Shelley Kerr gathered her squad in La Manga in Spain for two challenge matches. Despite losing to Norway and drawing to Russia, for two Scots in particular this trip will be truly memorable. Jenna Fife and Abi Harrison of Hibernian Ladies made their international debuts and congratulations go to both.

Transfer news is as elusive as hens teeth at the moment – will there be any moves prior to the close of the transfer window?

While all is quiet at the moment the next feature will include details of any late deals that are concluded.
