Amy McDonald is excited for the start of the new Scottish Woman’s Premier League season this weekend as the Rangers continue to improve.

The Gers boss is delighted that the club has also taken the initiative to officially change the registered name of the team to Rangers Women’s Football Club in a progressive and important step forward.

This is in alignment with modern thinking on issues of equality in both football and in general, something which the Gers manager feels is an exciting development.

McDonald said: “Rangers continue to make improvements to the girl’s and women’s program. In making the change from Ladies to Women it conforms with the rest of the game and sends the right message.

“I am extremely proud to be the head coach of such a prestigious club and hopefully this season we can continue to build and grow on what has already been established.

“From the first team right down to our 2007’s, we must continue to push our talented players to learn and to grow. We have great coaches, parents and players at the club and we continue to build a strong infrastructure to support further growth of the program.

“It is an exciting time for everyone at the club and we look forward to the season ahead and the years to come.”

McDonald’s Rangers side begin their Scottish Building Society Women’s Premier League campaign for the 2018 season this weekend with an away tie to face Celtic at K-Park Training Academy (kick off 2pm).

McDonald continued: “The first game against Celtic is a challenge that both teams will look forward too.

“We have to channel the hard work in pre-season and ensure we take all the positives as well as lessons learned into the game with us.

“We are excited to get the season underway and there is no better way than a match involving so much history.”
