An excellent performance from Glasgow City ensured a 5-0 win over fellow SWPL 1 side Spartans to progress into the next round of the SSE Scottish Cup, with City’s goals coming from Abbi Grant (2), Jo Love, Noelle Murray and Sam Kerr.

City took the lead on 18 minutes when Grant converted a Keeva Keenan cross with a brilliant bicycle kick. The City forward was causing the home side relentless problems in the opening period and will not score many better goals throughout her career.

It was relentless attacking from City in the first half and it was of little surprise when they doubled their lead seven minutes later when Love converted inside the box.

Sam Kerr made it 3-0 as she stroked home a Brogan Hay cross and Murray made it 4-0 before the break.

City made a double substitution at the interval followed by three more changes, but despite the change in personel, they continued to control the match, which finished with Spartans failing to record an effort on goal.

Abbi Grant secured a double on the 64th minute, as she forced the Spartans defence into a mistake and Carla Boyce came close hitting the post late on.

Commenting City Head Coach Scott Booth said, “I thought we were magnificent in the first half. We passed the ball with great accuracy and pace and caused our opponents real problems which paid off with a strong lead at half time and by then the game was won. In the second half, we continued to control the game and professionally saw the match out, adding another goal and keeping a clean sheet.”
